National Board of Directors Meeting Phoenix, Arizona November 24-27, 2014 March 2, 2014 After going through one of the coldest Februarys on record
it’s hard to believe that this is the shortest month of the year. I have been
doing work on a Masterpoint committee which is looking at the entire MP structure
with an eye to trying to correcting some of the inequities. Some of the areas
being looked at are the overly high awards in A/X games, the low awards for pairs games when compared to team games, and the small
awards for the lower small brackets in KO team games. We hope to have proposals
for Board discussion and approval in Las Vegas this summer. If you come across
any awards that you believe are out of line please let me know. The agenda for the Dallas meeting is posted on the ACBL
web site, feel free to check them out. http://web2.acbl.org/documentlibrary/about/Dallas2014Motions.pdf Here are a few of the motion I believe are of particular interest
to District 18. I appreciate any and all comments you may have on these motions. Item 141-27: Roles
and Responsibilities of Tournament Sponsors and DIC’s. There has always been uncertainty about who is responsible
for which decisions at tournaments. This motion is aimed at making life
easier for our tournament chairs. They will now have a resource to find who
has what responsibilities. Item 141-35: Pairing of Swiss Team Events Forbid the pairing in a Swiss team event of the second
round (and/or any other round) before knowing prior round results in order to
save time. This motion addresses the issue that it is more important
to run a proper event than it is to conduct a race for time. Items 141-F1,
141-F2, and 141-I1 are of particular interest to the Canadian members of our
District. 141-F1 asks that Canadian Clubs be assessed an additional
sanction few that would be used to pay all their member’s CBF dues. 141-F2 asks the Canadian Junior teams be funded to similar
levels that the USBF Junior teams are funded. This is meant to streamline the
system and reduce red tape. 141-I1 asks that CBF be allocated one of the current WBF
positions which are appointed by the ACBL Board. This is intended to assure
representation for Canadian players at the WBF. I am very interested in your thoughts on these motions. Item 141-143:
Special Games at Clubs The Special Games at Clubs be modified as follows: A. Eliminate the ACBL-Wide Charity Games B. Eliminate the ACBL-Wide International
Fund Games C. Eliminate the GNT Fund Raiser Games D. Eliminate the Unit Fund Games E. Eliminate the District Fund Games F. Eliminate the Canada-Wide Olympiad Fund G. Eliminate the Unit-Wide Championship H. Eliminate Progressive Sectionals – 2014-2016
Progressive Sectionals currently sanctioned would be honored. The number of special games at the club has become unmanageable.
This is an attempt to eliminate some of the lesser used games. I am
interested in whether removing any of these games would adversely affect your
club. Please send me your thoughts on these or any the motions
being presented in Dallas. Be sure to check the District 18 web site (www.wasumi.org
) for a follow-up on the Dallas meeting. This should appear before the end of
March. As always, may all your finesses be successful, Claire Jones District 18 BoD |
