Providence Report

November 23/26, 2014

Printable Format

Greetings to Everyone,

It is the countless volunteers across the country who make the ACBL such a special organization. Each year the ACBL recognizes one of these volunteers. This year the ACBL is honored to announce that James Flesher of Salt Lake City is the Aileen Osofsky Goodwill Member of the Year. A giant thank you to Jim and all the volunteers across our District.

The following is an update on some of the actions coming out of the Providence meetings. The ACBL has developed a new live.acbl.org service that is being test in Providence and a number of selected tournaments across the league. This service will post tournament results on the internet before you reach the parking lot on your way home. Check out how this works and watch for it at your tournaments after January 1st, 2015.

The Masterpoint committee passed several motions that affect the events at our Regionals. Beginning January 1st Regionals will be allowed to start at 1:00 pm on the Monday which in affect makes them a full 7 days long. There are a few regulations governing the early start but this is something your tournament planners will need to take into consideration when they draw up the tournament schedules. There has also been a change in the way strati-flighted events are structured. The old A/X structure is gone. The new structure is either 2 flights (A/B/C and D/E/F) or for the larger tournaments a 3 flight structure (A/B, C/D, and E/F).  This has created an exciting event specifically tailored for players in the 751 to 2000 MP range.

Our Pairs players should be pleased with the changes that were approved for the Pairs MP structure. Although there were many detailed changes to the formula for calculating MPs a simple explanation is that more overall places are being calculated and there is an approximate 25% increase in total MPs being awarded for Pairs. This was done to reduce the disparity between Pair and Team MP awards.

There was an election for the president of the ACBL. I am pleased to announce that Suzi Subeck of District 13 will be the 2015 President.

I am enclosing a link to the full CEO report for Providence and complete minutes from the meetings will be available on the ACBL web site in approximately 2 weeks. Don’t hesitate to contact me when you have any questions or concerns.

Best wishes for the upcoming holiday season and as always may all your finesses be successful.

Sincerely,

Claire Jones
