ACBL Board Meeting, Louisville

May 10-20, 2011

Pre: National Board of Directors Meeting

Before discussing the upcoming Board meeting motions I have to mention an exciting happening in our District. This year the Grand National Teams competition which selects the District 18 representatives will be held on the internet. For years District 18 players have suffered the high costs of traveling to one site for the team trials.  Now you can have a site in your own area. The Conditions of Contest are posted on the www.wasumi.org web site. If you are planning on participating contact either Marie Jolley or your State & Provincial representatives for full information.

There is a full agenda for Louisville with many motions that dealing with our corporate structure. As always I am asking for your input on the motions that deal with bridge. Feel free to send your thoughts on the motions I have copied below. Knowing your feelings helps me make more informed votes.

May all your finesses be successful,

Claire

Louisville Motions

Item 111-20: Diamond Life Master
Moved that:
For the rank of Diamond Life Master and above, the Black or Silver masterpoint requirements are removed.

The silver and black point requirements for obtaining Lifemaster are also required for Diamond Lifemasters. The mover of this motion believes players that have contributed to the League and have accumulated over 5000 masterpoints should be recognised even though they may not play in clubs or at Sectionals. There are currently 12 players with 5000+ MP's who are not recognised as Diamond Lifemasters.

Item 111-32: Swiss Team Conditions of Contest
Moved that:
7. The time allotted for play is seven minutes per board plus two minutes of administrative time per match. Time clocks (when available) shall be set to this maximum time. The time for play shall begin only after all matches have been made and participants have been given a short but adequate time (two minutes) to be seated. An announcement should be made when two minutes remain on the clock. No new boards may be started after this announcement, but any board already in play should be completed. All match results must be promptly reported by the winning team (both teams in the case of a tie).

Our present standard for play is 7.5 minutes per board. The mover of this motion hopes that this change would shorten the average time of a Swiss session by 10-15 minutes.

Item 111-110: Robot Points

Moved that:

ACBL masterpoints shall not be awarded in any game that includes one or more robots as participants.

Current regulations allow masterpoints to be awarded as if the event were an individual event. The mover of this motion believes it is not valid to award points if all participants are not human.
