Pre: National Board of Directors Meeting,
July 18-21, 2011
Hi All,
With the Toronto NABC's rapidly approaching there is another new set
of motions to be considered. A complete list of the motions is now
being made available on the ACBL web page. Here is a link to those
motions.
http://web2.acbl.org/documentlibrary/about/TorontoMotions.pdf
I am interested in your thoughts on any of these motions but I am
particularly interested in those motions which have the most effect
on the players across District 18. I would especially appreciate any
thoughts you may have on these motions.
Item 112-27: Strength of Field Formula
Moved that: A Strength of Field (SOF) formula be implemented for
Regional and Sectional Pair and Swiss Team games. Implementation of
the SOF formula will be subject to full board approval of detailed
specifications to be delivered to the Board on or before the Fall
2011 meetings.
This motion would change the way master point awards are calculated
at tournaments. The present system that bases awards on event type
and number of tables would be replaced with a system that awards
higher awards when there are stronger fields and lower awards for
weaker fields of the same size. Strength is based on master point
holdings. Using this creates a net result of increasing points in
strong events while reducing the awards in events such as 199er or
299er pairs.
Item 112-49: Alert Chart
Moved that: Conventions and Competitions Committee Suggestions –
Alert Chart
A. Remove the requirement to Alert a cheapest club bid response over
a NT opener or overcall, regardless of response structure. Responses
which are different from standard (such as “Puppet Stayman”) would
still be Alertable.
B. Amend the definitions of natural openers to include a 1C opener
on specifically 4432 with 2 clubs and 4-4 in the majors.
Item 112-153: Masterpoints Second Reading Required
Moved that:
I. Club masterpoints be calculated using a formula equivalent to the
tournament masterpoint formula.
This would change the calculation of master points at the club from
the present method to one where games are rated similarly to
sectionals but at a reduced percentage.
I would like to point out item 112-52: GNT Finals Internet.
This motion is a direct result of the effort our District made by
piloting our GNT finals on the internet. Thank you to everyone who
helped make it such a success.
Thank you in advance for any thoughts you may send me and as always,
may all your finesses be successful.
